类型上依然是美国人最喜爱的「罪案调查」，形式上又有新的「花样」。故事讲述两个男人联手侦破FBI顶级要案，抓获最狡诈的罪犯的故事。这两个人一个是诈骗高手，另一个是专门捉拿诈骗高手的FBI 警探。他们本来没有合作的可能，但事实证明他们合作得很好－－除了经常因意见相左而争吵之外。
. {3 v8 x5 g# I! ~$ ]Neal Caffrey（Matt Bomer扮演，"Chuck"，"Tru Calling"）是一位英俊帅气但是臭名昭著的诈骗犯，最近刚刚从安全等级最高的联邦监狱中成功逃脱。Peter Burke（Tim DeKay扮演，"Tel l Me You Love Me"）是一位出色的FBI警探，Neal的死敌。Peter将Neal抓住，然后又故意让他脱逃，自然有他的打算。Elizabeth Burke（Tiffani Thiessen扮演，"What About Brian"，"Fastlane"）是Peter的妻子，个性刚强但是善解人意。Mozzie（Willie Garson扮演，"Sex and t he City"）是Neal的朋友和「眼线」－－不管街上发生什么事，Mozzie都会第一时间通知Neal，从而协助Neal与Peter抓住坏蛋。2 L' e; d$ b- v8 q, |. 这部剧集之所以叫做《White Collar》，是因为剧中所涉及的案件都是「高科技型犯罪」或者「智慧型犯罪」，绝非拦路抢劫或者小偷小摸这类「只需动手不需动脑」的案件可以比拟的。像最近一集《灵书妙探》（Castle）描述的多线索诈骗案，就属于「White Collar」类型。

K( {# F, SNeal在本剧中被塑造成一个对犯罪学「万事精通」的形象－－他能伪造各种证件和文书，他只看一眼就能快速识别钱币上的纹路，他轻而易举就能逃出戒备森严的一级监狱。从表面上来看，Neal是个温文尔雅，说话和颜悦色，并且十分健谈的人。所有人都认为他是个天才，绝不可能被Peter抓住。而Peter在本剧中被塑造成一个专注、热心、努力工作、有奉献精神的正派形象。他也是个天才，他的天赋主要表现在观察力和判断力上。他能洞悉罪犯的一切手段，并提前预测到他们的想法和行动。但是可怜的Peter唯独有一件事怎么也想不明白－－该买什么结婚周年礼物送给妻子呢？ [
